5 Reasons To Hire A Wedding Planner
Being a wedding planner is not at all like what movies might portray them as!
For starters, we promise not to fall in love with anyone getting married circa Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey in The Wedding Planner. And also, we don’t wear headsets, although that would be pretty cool! But aside from those two glaring differences, the hustle and bustle is real.
So they popped the question and you said “YES”! Now what? We get it; you’re overwhelmed with emotion and just want to completely bask in the glow of this monumental moment. But everybody follows up their “congratulations” with a “have you set a date yet?” and that can feel terrifying. From the financial aspect to indoor or outdoor venues and family traditions, it can all feel like too much to process, let alone make decisions on.
There are so many benefits to hiring a professional wedding planner to plan and run your wedding. It lifts such a huge weight off your shoulders and leaves you with a clearer mind to do the fun things, like cake tastings, wine pairings, and dress shopping!
We get it!
If you’ve went back and forth between whether to hire help for your big day, we’ve listed our top five reasons to hire a wedding planner to help you make the decision.
Stay on budget
Right off the bat, you’re going to meet with your wedding planner to get to know each other. Building a bond is of the utmost importance as it forms trust and the foundation for the coming months–or years–of your life! And in the initial meeting, you’ll likely discuss your ideal budget for your event. Knowing this in the very beginning will help your wedding planner ensure that you have a realistic idea of what is possible and not so much with the amount there is to work with.
From florals and venues to whether you want a plated service or open bar, this can all be budgeted down to the dollar. And knowing exactly where your money is going will help ease your worried mind when it feels like every time you turn around, you’re swiping the ol’ credit card!
Throughout the entire process, your wedding planner will be dedicated to keeping you on track while making sure you still get the wedding of your dreams!
2. Coordinate and streamline communication with all vendors
Trying to remember every vendor’s name and specific needs can be a daunting task. With a wedding planner, they’ll be able to communicate with all of your vendors directly to gather necessary information to take your wedding day from your daydreams to reality. They’ll coordinate with the DJ, caterer, bar service, florist, officiant, venue, and anybody else involved. You will feel so much calmer knowing that there is one point-of-contact for all vendors to reach in case of changes, emergencies, or questions.
3. Troubleshooting
Another aspect of wedding planning is troubleshooting (or “crisis management” in some instances). Whether the weather forecast got it wrong and your sunny day is now looking like Hurricane JLo coming to town, a wedding planner will have a Plan B (and C) to fall back on. This goes for other things as well like how to get power in the middle of a forest or what to do if the rental company forgets to send tables. Imagine being a couple on your big day, or even in the weeks leading up to it, and having to deal with last minute changes that send your calm nerves into a tornado. With a wedding planner, you can rest easy knowing that no matter how big it seems, they’ve probably dealt with it before and it will be completely handled.
4. Itinerary Management
When you have to think about exactly how the entire wedding day will run, you might want to run for the hills. With a wedding planner, you will get a detailed itinerary that lays out everything from the rehearsal the day before to the entire wedding day. And we’re talking from hair and makeup at 7:00 am to the midnight firework sendoff. It will be coordinated and detailed down to the last minute. You will know exactly where to be, when to be there, and where everybody else will be, too! Having a planner map out the entire day can change the dynamic of how smoothly an event runs. And, as per number three above, if something goes different and timelines are set back, the planner will troubleshoot and pivot accordingly.
5. Make sure the day of the wedding runs smoothly
So the wedding is finally here and you couldn’t be more excited to marry the love of your life. That said, there are still some butterflies and nerves that come along with the big day. One of the biggest benefits of having a wedding planner is that they will be there with you through it all. They’ll check in with you while you’re getting ready and then spend the remainder of the day at the ceremony location to prepare for the guests’ arrival. And they will be one of the last people you see before you walk down the aisle. They’ll remind you to smile, walk slowly, and soak up every minute of this incredible day. They’ll also cue the DJ to play the right music, ensure guests are comfortable, and make sure that cocktails and dinner start on time. Once the night truly begins, they’ll be there to get the first dance and any other reception traditions started and make sure that no detail is left out.
Honestly, we could go on for a lot longer on why you should have a wedding planner, but hopefully those five helped clear things up! Really though, whether you decide to organize it all yourself, enlist family and friends to help, or hire a planner and their team to take care of everything, one thing is for sure; your day will be nothing short of amazing!
