Build an Outdoor Space Perfect for Hosting Any Event
Summer has officially arrived and so have backyard gatherings! Creating a backyard space that is event dream-worthy can be challenging. We’ve shared our inspiration for creating a backyard oasis along will all our tips to transform your space into a summer hot spot.
Create Privacy
Adding a touch of privacy to your backyard space by using the natural tree line, a fence or a pergola can give your space an intimate feeling. Adding privacy is important, not only do you want to have privacy when you enjoy the space with your family, but your guest will also appreciate feeling like they aren’t on display for the whole neighborhood to see.
Create a Conversation Area
The conversation area is perfect for mingling guests and casual conversation. This area is your area to sit back and relax. The spot to lounge in the mid-day sun and the spot to cozy up next to a fire in the evening. The conversation area is where the event starts and ends. This area should consist of ample sitting room with chairs idea for lounging, a few throw blankets for when the evening cools, and of course a centre table to display your appetizers and midnight snacks on and a side table or two for guests to use to rest their drinks on.
Create an Area to Dine In
The dining area is the centerpiece of your evening and should be the centerpiece of your oasis. This is where your guests will spend a large part of their night and you’ll want to make sure it is well-curated to bring together a wonderful evening. Place settings can be as simple or as extravagant as the meals you serve. You can decorate your table with a floral centerpiece or smaller potted arrangements. Adding charger plates give your place setting an elevated look while still keeping it simple!
Add Lighting
To bring together any backyard oasis you’ll need to add touches of warm lighting for when the evening dims. A large lighting piece to consider is a fire pit. A fire pit not only adds physical and spacial warmth, but it is also a place for your guest to gather and converse. If you don’t want to alter the landscape of your backyard there are plenty of tabletop fire pieces to choose from.
The lighting in your backyard can make for a magical evening. Adding string lights along the fence line, or woven into the top of your pergola can transform this evening space. String lights can be manipulated to line or wrap around a variety of spaces and pieces.
Similar to adding a fire pit or table, candles bring an essence of warmth to an evening. Candles can be displayed in the dining area throughout your centerpieces to add warmth to your dining experience. Candles can also be added to lanterns and displayed around your backyard to add touches of warmth in dark corners.
Pot Seasonal Plants and Flowers
Potting seasonal plants is one way to decorate your outdoor space. Create a seasonal planter filled with gorgeous plants and flowers. You can also add variety by creating planted herb pots. Herb pots are perfect summer seasonal planters. Planted herbs aren’t just for decoration, the next time you need thyme save yourself the trip to the store and step into your backyard instead.
Add Decor
Finally, decorating your backyard space largely depends on your decor style and how you plan to use your backyard oasis. Adding small decor details throughout your space can bring everything you’ve planned and worked so hard on together. Creating a colour theme through decor pillows and throw blankets can establish the pallet for your space. Using rugs in sitting areas is another simple and subtle way to decorate your oasis. Use natural elements that already exist in your space to decorate, such as stone or wood platters. You can let the natural beauty of your backyard oasis shine while adding a few thoughtful touches of decor.
